Your new company

A dynamic and leading retail bank in Edinburgh are recruiting for an In House Lawyer to join their team on a contract basis, approximately 4 months in length
This is a pioneering role in GDPR with the bank that will see you reviewing supplier contracts to identify changes required to make them GDPR compliant and you will also be responsible for making changes to impacted supplier contracts to make then GDPR compliant

Your new role

You will develop relationships as a key trusted adviser, taking the time to understand the relevant business areas to be able to provide targeted and relevant advice
Assembles research and produces clear, accurate findings
Analyses legal and commercial issues in detail and is able to explain complex issues
Drafts advice, contract terms and other complex documents in plain English with minimal or no supervision
Prepares and conducts negotiations (as required) with minimal or no supervision
Takes instructions from internal business stakeholders and translates them into appropriate action
Complies with the Bank's supervision rules and guidance
Complies with all risk management policies and procedures
Demonstrates awareness of the Bank's practice areas and business development strategy

What you'll need to succeed

A qualified solicitor with a minimum of 3 years PQE
A demonstrably thorough working knowledge of UK regulatory framework and regulated banking, coupled with an appreciation of the business needs of a retail bank
Maintains up to date working knowledge/understanding of relevant areas of law
Maintains up to date knowledge of commercial developments in specialist field
Experienced commercial contracts lawyer
Has a deep understanding of the data protection and related main legal developments/issues relating to the role
Manages own time efficiently, delivering work on time according to requirements and keeping more senior colleagues up to date with developments as appropriate
Has a good knowledge of Insurance product law, contract law and data protection law
Understands and uses IT resources to their full potential
Excellent team player with ability to working closely with others to deliver results
Proven track record of working on own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider team
Demonstrate an ability to think and reason logically
Builds and maintains effective working relationships internally and externally and has developed a profile among senior colleagues
Excellent written communication
Exceptional communication skills - ability to communicate effectively with anyone in any environment, e.g. able to translate complex / technical issues to meet the audience's competency level
